Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP)

The Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) is organised every semester, in the framework of the parliamentary dimension of each Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). The founding Conference was organised by the House of Representatives, on 9-10 September 2012, in Pafos, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Conference aims at discussing matters related to CFSP and CSDP and at exchanging information and best practices between participating parliaments, to enable national Parliaments and the European Parliament to be fully informed when carrying out their role in these policy areas. The agenda of each Conference includes, amongst others, the presentation of EU priorities and strategies in the areas of CFSP and CSDP by the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU. The Conference can adopt non-binding Conclusions, which are communicated to the Presidents of national Parliaments, the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Commission, as well as to the Vice-President of the Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, for information purposes.

Each National Parliament participates in the Conference with a delegation composed of 6 members and the European Parliament with a delegation composed of 16 members, mainly from parliamentary committees responsible for matters related to foreign policy and defence.
