The Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the EU

The Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the EU

The Conference was established in 2013, under Article 13 of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and exchanging information and best practices between national parliaments, the European Parliament (EP) and the European Commission. It also aims at ensuring democratic legitimacy and accountability in the areas of economic governance and fiscal policy of the Union.

The Conference is held twice a year. In the first semester of each calendar year, it is held in the EP, in Brussels, in the framework of the “European Parliamentary Week” and is co-organised and co-chaired by the EP and the Parliament of the country holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU. In the second semester of each calendar year, the Conference is held in the Member State holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU and is chaired by the Parliament of that Member State.

The House of Representatives is represented at these Conferences by three of its members, namely the Chairpersons/Deputy Chairpersons of the Committees on Financial and Budgetary Affairs, Foreign and European Affairs and Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance.
