Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol

Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol

Pursuant to Article 88 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, which stipulates that Europol’s scrutiny is exercised by the European Parliament together with National Parliaments, the Conference of Presidents of the EU Member States decided in May 2016 to form the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on Europol.

JPSG Europol meets every six months and monitors Europol's activities on a political basis, including their impact on fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals. It is also consulted in relation to Europol's Multiannual Programming.

The Chairperson of Europol’s Management Board, its Executive Director and the European Data Protection Supervisor appear before the JPSG to discuss issues related to the above activities, taking into account the obligations of discretion and confidentiality.

The House of Representatives participates to the JPSG with a four-member delegation, consisting of Mr. Demetris Demetriou-head (DISY), Nicos Kettiros (AKEL-Left-New Forces), Chrysanthos Savvides (DIKO) and Elias Myrianthous (Movement of Social Democrats EDEK).
